About the Center

The immigrant house is a community center, multi-cultural urban, leading recreation and enrichment activities for various immigrant populations. The center focuses its activities in the field of languages, education and culture conservation and is accompanied by a professional team. The immigrant house is committed to accompany the immigrant community in all its forms, to impart tools to integrate within the Israeli society and encourage it to get involved in social responsibility.

Hebrew Ulpan

Hebrew School.

The Ulpan works in cooperation with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, the Ministry of Education and the Jewish Agency. The Ulpans work throughout the year and at different levels, opening the immigrant classes depends on the number of candidates to learn Hebrew at the same time and same area.

Studies take place in the morning from studio 08:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or at the afternoon from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. At the end of the studies, the students are tested and receive a certificate from the Ministry of Education.

Tutoring center for immigrants

 Tutoring center for immigrant students

The center reinforces immigrant youth from different professions in order to reduce the social and educational gaps school drop-out prevention, enrichment and promotion of academic achievements of immigrant students.

* Reinforced subjects are - English, mathematics and Hebrew. 

The activities take place twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays afternoon, in small groups and at nominal prices.

OE"A Program (a.k.a 'Pele')

 

OE"A program (other educational activities) post Elementary grades in cooperation with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption.

The education is the true key to integrate in a society and for vulnerable groups to exit from the cycle of distress. The Association of Community Centers had developed the OE"A Program, which promotes youth who are weak in both academics and in terms of their self-image.

OE"A - (other educational activities) is a concept based on the educational principle that anyone can get ahead and succeed and everyone deserves an equal chance of success. The learning is to be based on the learner's strengths. The learner is in fact a partner to educate him and be educate by him.

OE"A program offers an alternative learning activity to the formal learning activity as it grasps the learner as a partner on a journey, while summoning success experiences that build a sense of competence, encouraging an ongoing dialogue and allowing a selection.

The program works in cooperation and in full coordination with partners including schools whom together define learning goals.

The program goals:

o   responding to study and advancement of knowledge in various subjects after formal school hours and strengthening

o   enriching social involvement through a variety of social and attractive activities

Target population:

Children of immigrants from all countries of origin, who are in Israel less than five years.

o   Ethiopian immigrants aged according to grades 7 – 12 whose parents have immigrated from -11/1984 (Operation Moses) even if they were born in Israel

o   Caucasian, Georgy and Bukhara immigrants aged according to grades 7 – 12, whose parents have immigrated to Israel since 1989 and so forth (even if the children were born in Israel).

o   general participants condition – as long as they are not on nother program funded by the Ministry of Absorption

 

Learning and Education Center

Tehila - basic education 

The plan is for every citizen in Israel who is illiterate, or those with low literacy and those who did not complete primary elementary school education.

The program focuses on three main areas: acquisition of knowledge, acquiring tools and skills, attitude and positions. It fosters the learners' awareness and recognition of the importance of ongoing learning and trying to instill in him the recognition of his ability to exercise his skills and improve his functioning at the family, work and society. The program provides basic tools such as reading, writing, reading comprehension and math - for orientation in the modern world.

The program lasts approximately 500 hours. End of the program entitles a certificate.

The program includes: two mandatory subjects, reading comprehension and mathematics. These subjects are examined by national examinations. Three other subjects can be selected and their tests are internal.

Subsidized cost 

Activities on Sunday and Tuesday

Morning from 9:00 to 12:30

Evening between 17:00 to 19:30

Completion of High School Education

o   The program is intended for ages 18 and above, who have not completed their high school education and want to learn in order to receive a high school diploma.

o   Studies are composed of units of study in mandatory subjects free choice subjects

o   Compliance with the school duties gives the eligible a certificate of the Ministry of Education certificate attesting to completion of "secondary education for adults".

o   Classes are held in the adult education centers throughout the country.

o   Students learning to complete their high school education are embedded in their learning levels depending on the results of matching tests (exams sorting).

Integration in the community – integrate immigrants in society and culture

The immigrant house leading and a co-partner  in different national and local programs for immigrants to facilitate and contribute to the integration into society. 

Variety of programs: 

o   Kimcha Passover - distribution of packages to new immigrants (one year in the country)

o   personal touch - meetings with Russian writers and poets in

o   Classes - subsidized classes system for children and youth

o   A tribute to Russian culture - festive event celebrated every year in June at the Holon Theater

o   Plan OE"A - Enhancing immigrant students in schools

o   Jewish identity and Israeli identity - Russian speaking meetings on women in the Bible

o   trips around the country for immigrants

o   Camps – Subsided for the Ethiopian and Russian immigrant community

o   Yamit 2000 (water park)- available at a subsidized price to the Ethiopian community in the summer months and available at no cost for those who have immigrated in the past year.

o   Cultural and enrichment activities for senior citizens immigrants
